Goals and collaboration areas
Stockholm Trio supports joint efforts between the three universities and drives collaboration within priority areas.
Goals for Stockholm Trio
- Create new conditions for developing university-wide research and education by leveraging a comprehensive academic environment.
- Clarify the excellence and internationally renowned academic environment that the partners collectively represent, and strengthen the universities’ capacity to act jointly, regionally, nationally, and internationally, with the alliance collaboration as a foundation.
- Coordinate and build common functions for operational support to promote long-term conditions, professionalisation, and development capacity.
Priority collaboration areas
Stockholm Trio has identified selected areas where it aims to enhance collaboration. Below, you can read more about our priority collaboration areas for 2025–2027.
Sustainable development
The Stockholm Trio for Sustainable Actions (STSA) initiative, supports interdisciplinary research, education, and collaboration for sustainable development, with a particular focus on climate and health. Learn more about Stockholm Trio for Sustainable Actions.
EU collaboration
Through its joint representation in Brussels, Stockholm Trio supports participation in EU-funded research, education, and innovation programs. The representation also works to monitor and influence policy development in these areas at the EU level. Learn more about the Brussels representation.
Stockholm Trio has also, together with the City of Stockholm, seconded a national expert to the European Commission. The initiative supports EU’s work in digitalisation and the green transition.
International collaborations
Stockholm Trio offers an opportunity to collaborate with Karolinska Institutet, KTH, and Stockholm University as a powerful alliance, aiming to strengthen and initiate international collaborations with leading universities. Learn more about our international collaborations.
Education
Stockholm Trio identifies and develops joint educational initiatives to harness the broad academic environment offered collectively by Karolinska Institutet, KTH, and Stockholm University. Learn more about joint initiatives in education.
Research infrastructure
To enhance collaboration for a competitive research infrastructure in the Stockholm region, Stockholm Trio has established a working group focused on making research infrastructure accessible to researchers at the three universities and acting jointly at national level. The group's mandate also includes identifying and evaluating opportunities for new research infrastructure of shared interest.
The national life sciences initiative, SciLifeLab External link., initiated by Karolinska Institutet, KTH, Stockholm University, and Uppsala University, is an excellent example of how coordinated investments in research infrastructure strengthen research and innovation in Stockholm and Sweden.
Integrated campuses
Stockholm Trio is working to improve physical connections between the three universities. This effort includes dialogue with Region Stockholm and the City of Stockholm in collaboration with student unions, Akademiska Hus, and Svenska Bostäder. Stockholm Trio is also working to promote the efficient shared use of facilities, encompassing both university premises and student and researcher housing.
