Stockholm Trio–UTokyo collaboration funding

Funding is available for collaborative activities between the University of Tokyo and Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University.

The University Alliance Stockholm Trio is pleased to announce joint collaborative funding to support collaborative activities such as workshops, symposia and/or application writing meetings to build on the existing partnerships between Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and the University of Tokyo (UTokyo).

The purpose of this initiative is to catalyse new collaborations or boost existing collaborations. Applications that might lead to external funding are encouraged.

Up to SEK 30,000 is available from each university within Stockholm Trio (Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm University) to each application with a co-investigator from respective university.

For a project with co-PIs from all four universities, the maximum possible amount could be SEK 90,000 between the three Stockholm institutions and what the UTokyo co-PI can contribute. For example, to cover the costs of hosting a meeting, travel cost or similar.

• Each application must include a co-Investigator from UTokyo and a co-PI from one or more of KI, KTH, and SU. There must be two or more researchers i.e. academic members of staff, post-doctoral researcher, or PhD student from each partner on the project team.
  
• The fund is open to applications for activities which involve academic components such as workshops (face-to-face or virtual), seminars, symposia, application writing meetings (e.g. for Horizon Europe) and the formation or development of a collaborative network, faculty development or curriculum development, involving UTokyo, and one or more of the universities within Stockholm Trio.
• Projects will be funded until 31 March 2027.
• Activities that can demonstrate follow-up and sustainability beyond the initial funding period are particularly encouraged.
• The seed funding granted will be up to SEK 30,000 per participating Swedish institution in each project.

• Academic staff with a PhD from all disciplines are welcome to apply. We particularly encourage early career researchers to apply.
• Applicants do not need to have a permanent post, but they must have an existing contract (or, in the case of KI, affiliation) at the time of application, and that contract must cover the full period of the grant.
