Research network for sustainable fashion and textiles
Researchers from Karolinska Institutet, KTH and Stockholm university have initated a research network on sustainable textile and fashion with the ambition to establish a permanent collaboration platform.
Purpose
New forms of collaboration and long-term strategies are needed to take collective responsibility for transforming the textile and fashion industry. This research network aims to advance interdisciplinary research and strengthen cooperation between academia and industry stakeholders. It brings together representatives from the three universities, spanning a wide range of disciplines. The aim is to establish a permanent collaborative platform for sustainable fashion and textiles.
Activities
The research network is mapping and analysing the fashion value chain to identify areas that can be strengthened through partnerships with other universities and stakeholders. Taking a systems approach, the network explores key components such as legal frameworks, production and materials, labour, private consumption, public procurement, management, and waste management. The findings will be published in an international journal, providing the foundation for a comprehensive joint research project proposal.
In 2024 the research network organised a seminar on how academia, industry and government agencies can work together for a more sustainable textile and fashion system.
