Stockholm Trio offers an opportunity to collaborate with Karolinska Institutet, KTH, and Stockholm University as a powerful alliance and has strategic collaborations with leading universities globally.
Collaboration with internationally leading universities
Major research breakthroughs are often the result of collaboration and the exchange of ideas between researchers from different parts of the world. Support for collaborations with internationally leading universities is part of Stockholm Trio's efforts to strengthen research at the three universities.

Strategic partnership with University of Tokyo
In 2017, Karolinska Institutet, KTH, and Stockholm University entered into a strategic partnership with the University of Tokyo External link.. The partnership is now an established part of Stockholm Trio, providing researchers at the three universities the opportunity to develop collaborations with researchers at one of Japan’s top-ranked universities. The partnership also enables student exchanges between Stockholm and Tokyo.

Partnership with UCL
In February 2025 Karolinska Institutet, KTH, and Stockholm University signed a letter of intent with University College London (UCL) External link. within the framework of Stockholm Trio. The agreement expands research collaboration between the four universities, initially focusing on sustainability, the climate crisis, and mental health.
Stockholm Trio has a been collaborating with UCL since 2020 through the UCL Cities Partnership Programme Stockholm External link. that focused on sustainable city development, climate change and health in collaboration with City of Stockholm
